MAJOR! is a documentary film exploring the life and campaigns of Miss Major Griffin-Gracy - a veteran of the Stonewall Rebellion, a survivor of Attica State Prison, a former sex worker, an elder, a community leader and human rights activist. To many in her community she is simply “Mama”. Her radiant character strengthens those around her as they struggle and organise against police and prison brutality. If history is held within us, embodied in our loves and losses, then Miss Major is a living library, a resource for generations to come to more fully understand the rich heritage of the Queer/LGBTIQA+ Rights movement.
She founded the renowned Transgender GenderVariant Intersex Justice Project (TGIJP) that advocates for trans women (+ GV & I) of colour in and outside of prison. We are delighted to have both StormMiguel Florez from the TGI Justice Project Leadership Team and the director of Major! Annalise Ophelian present for questions & discussion.
Film with subtitles for deaf/hard of hearing audience members and Q & A + intro with BSL interpretation.
