Shorts from Spain: A Cracking Year

#ICAAcuratesGlasgow It’s yer turn Glasgow! In November we welcome Spanish Institute for Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (Cine ICAA) to curate a ‘Simply the best’ selection of 2016. A thrilling year for Spanish short filmmaking industry as we won our first Palm d’Or with Juanjo Gimenez’s Timecode! Teaming up with the Spanish Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA), CinemaAttic proudly presents SHORTS FROM SPAIN. For the very first time the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts have compiled a selection of the best Spanish productions to showcase the variety and quality of Spanish short film-making industry in festivals worldwide. This is a sample selection of the best Spanish short films produced in 2015, international award winners and nominated – Semana Internacional de Cine de Valladolid - Seminci, Gaudí Awards and Cinema Jove, Premios Goya nominations, official selections at Film Festival Locarno (Official Page) , Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival and Mar de Plata as well as screenings in over 25 countries worldwide-. The programme offers a wide variety of genres, styles and techniques currently on display in the Spanish short film industry. From the latest shout on celebrated Spanish animation (MoMA The Museum of Modern Art paid a tribute to Spanish Animators last month) to representatives of vibrant ’novo cinema galego’ movement with “Ser e Voltar” by Xacio Baño. Animation plays a key role again in our programme. We’re thrilled to have the latest work from Goya winner Alberto Vazquez -do you remember BIRDBOY folks?- Yes we have their latest gem, yet more postpunk animation with his acclaimed ‘Unicorn Blood’ coming to Scotland. Usual collaborator and responsible for Birdboy’s color and animation development Khris Cembe also presents his first directing work inside this programme with ‘Travel by Feet’, a short film about a chap who just wants to have a pleasant train journey… Deprivation and poverty are present with three utterly magnificent shorts on the impact of the crisis in Spain. The reality of unemployment, family inherited businesses facing close-down or Pablo Remon’s “A whole Future Together”, witty tale on banking trash products and subprime loan lending prior to the financial meltdown. Drama, satire, thriller and fantasy all in one night. CinemaAttic welcomes a selection that spans cutting edge works and globally acclaimed short films.
